A merchant vessel reported being under attack 18 April 2010, at an unspecified time, in the Indian Ocean near position 09:29N – 068:56E, approximately 1100NM east of the Somali Coast. The merchant vessel reported being fired upon by one skiff consisting of four pirates armed with rocket propelled grenades. The attack was repelled by an armed security team. The vessel is proceeding to its next scheduled port of call. This area will remain high risk for the next 24-48 hours as weather conditions continue to be conducive to small boat operations. Mariners are warned to avoid transiting these waters if possible. If necessary to transit these waters, mariners are encouraged to use all counter-piracy measures and employ all best management practices.
