Piracy Report
Please be advised:
A bulk carrier reported coming under fire 21 Apr 10 at 1050 UTC while underway in position 01:10.05N – 065:00.08E, approximately 665NM northeast of Port Victoria, Seychelles. Four men in a blue skiff armed with RPGs and automatic weapons opened fire on the vessel for approximately three minutes. The vessel increased speed and conducted evasive maneuvers, forcing the attackers to abandon the attempt. Wind speed during the attack was at 2 knots with sea states at 2-3 feet. The vessel’s speed during the transit was 16 knots. This area will remain high risk for the next 24-48 hours as weather conditions continue to be conducive to small boat operations. Mariners are warned to avoid transiting these waters if possible. If necessary to transit these waters, mariners are encouraged to use all counter-piracy measures and employ all best management practices.
