Piracy Report
Please be advised: A merchant tanker reported being fired upon 25 Apr 10 at 0304Z while underway in position 18:05N - 065:49E, approximately 441NM southeast of Masirah, Oman. A second tanker reported being fired upon at 0416Z while underway in position 18:02N - 065:20E, approximately 402NM southeast of Masirah, Oman and 39NM northwest of the first incident. Both vessels were fired on by AK-47’s and one was fired upon by one RPG round. The pirate skiff used for both attacks was described as an all white skiff and one tanker increased her speed from 13 knots to 16 knots to prevent the attack. This area will remain high risk for the next 24-48 hours as weather conditions continue to be conducive to small boat operations. Mariners are warned to avoid transiting these waters if possible. If necessary to transit these waters, mariners are encouraged to use all counter-piracy measures and employ all best management practices.
