Piracy Report
Please be advised:
Possible pirate activity noted near position 04:31N - 051:03E, approximately 157 NM southeast of Hobyo, Somalia, at 1731Z on 29 January 2010 heading 136 at 17 kts. Historically, when currently pirate-controlled vessels get underway and transit away from the Somali coast, it is likely to conduct mothership operations or to provide logistical support to motherships already underway in the Indian Ocean. Due to this precident, it is possible that this vessel may at some point transit north in order to provide support to the mothership noted in ONI's warning sent on 26 January 2010 at 0910 EST (attached below) still believed to be loitering near 13:08N - 056:56E, approximately 153NM east of Socotra Island, Yemen. This location is approximately 566 NM northeast of above noted pirate activity. Mariners are warned to steer clear of the mentioned areas as they will remain high risk for at least the next 24-48 hours. If necessary to transit these waters, mariners are warned to employ all possible counter-piracy measures.
